Autum 2026

Posted: 11th August, 2026

Welcome to our very first newsletter and brand new website in this very hot and dry summer of 2026!

This year’s museum season is now well over half way through and visitors have been mightily impressed by what they have seen. Our “Bloxham in 50 Objects” special exhibition has stirred a great deal of interest with some of its quite outstanding exhibits.

Take the Iron Age baldric ring, found by one of our own Trustees whilst metal detectoring in the surrounds of the village. The mighty British Museum have seen the piece and were extremely impressed. We are very proud to be able to exhibit the ring this year. Who knows, in future you may have to visit the BM itself to view it! If you haven’t done so yet, come and see it before it disappears and find out what it was for.

Another star is the piece of Roman mosaic found some years ago in the centre of the modern village, but being exibited for the very first time, thanks to the kindness of its owner. It may not look spectacular, but gives a tantilising clue as to possible high status Roman occupation of Bloxham – thus is incredibly historically significant.

Another excellent exhibit is a pretty permanent one. It’s the soup kitchen, built into the courthouse which houses the museum, in the late 19th century. It is one of very few of this type remaining in the U.K., giving solid evidence to how those in extreme hunger were looked after in the village.
Three of the 50 objects waiting for you to come and choose your favourite. Do visit!

New this year is our newly built “Sights and Sounds of Bloxham”. In this room you can watch some videos of old Bloxham and also listen to some of its elder statesmen and women reminisce on Bloxham in their youth – fascinating stuff.

There’s lots to look at and listen to in the museum, so if you haven’t visited us yet then get to it before we close for the year on the day the clocks go back in October. There is no entrance charge, so visit as often as you wish. We only ask that perhaps a small donation will help us keep the museum vibrant and in place for many years to come.

If you would like to get involved in the museum please do let us know through the contact details given here on the website. We rely on our volunteers to keep going. Without them, there would be no museum.
